At Vets on Balwyn, we offer desexing procedures to keep your dog healthy and happy. Desexing, also known as spaying and neutering, is a surgical procedure that helps prevent unwanted pregnancies and offers various health and behavioural advantages.

In Victoria, small dogs are generally desexed around seven months of age, while larger dogs are typically desexed between 10 months and two years, based on their breed, sex, and any existing health concerns.

Desexing Options?

For Male Dogs

  • Permanent Surgical Desexing (Castration): A permanent solution involving the surgical removal of the testicles.
  • Temporary Contraception (Suprelorin): An implant providing temporary contraception, which allows you to monitor behavioural changes before opting for surgery.

For Female Dogs

  • Spaying: Surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus.
