Puppy pre-school is a must for all owners wanting to give their puppy the best start in life and the opportunity to grow into a well-behaved and socialised dog.

A puppy’s early experiences shape the kind of adult dog they’ll become. That’s why early socialisation and training are so important in the first few weeks and months of life.

At Vets on Balwyn, we refer our clients to our sister clinic, Vets on Parker in Templestowe — less than a 15-minute drive away — for their popular puppy pre-school. Run by the experienced team from Positive K9 Training, these fun and friendly classes help puppies between 8 -18 weeks of age develop confidence and social skills while owners learn practical training techniques.

The team were caring, professional, and gentle during his vaccinations and worming. They took the time to teach our children how to safely interact with and care for him, and provided plenty of helpful advice for first-time puppy owners. Rosie unfortunately had an incident with a stick and was looked after by the Vicky and the team. They were so lovely and took Rosie in to care for her despite being fully booked. Rosie has recovered so well thanks to the amazing team. Fergus visited this week for his annual Vaccinations while Rosie was having a post op check up, Vivian was super friendly and gentle with them both  and rewarded them with lots of treats during their visit which really helps with Rosie's confidence ❤️

FAQs

At what age can my puppy attend puppy school?

At Vets on Balwyn, our puppy preschool is designed for puppies aged 8-14 weeks at the start of the first class. We will allow puppies to start as old as 16 weeks for some breeds. For further information, please reach out to us at 9850 1355.

How long are classes at puppy school?

Each class at puppy preschool lasts 50 to 60 minutes and runs consecutively for five weeks.

Who runs the classes?

Our puppy preschool classes are run by an experienced professional dog trainer from Positive K9 Training.

Where are classes held?

The classes are held outdoors in our fully enclosed puppy preschool yard. You can access the area via the stairs to the right of the reception area entrance or via the Ruffey Street car park.

Do classes run during wet weather?

Generally, our puppy preschool classes run in all weather except thunderstorms or heavy rain. The clinic will notify you via SMS if a class has been cancelled.

Does my puppy need to be vaccinated to attend?

Yes, all puppies must have received their first puppy vaccination before their first class at puppy preschool.
